Channel 5’s new television series, The Great Auction Showdown, will be filming the final part of its Ripon-based episode at our Antiques and Furniture Sale on Tuesday 4 October from 10am.
The show stars one of the UK's best-known antique experts, Paul Martin, who each week goes head-to-head with a rival auctioneer in a competition to see who can make the most cash at auction.
It is filmed on location throughout the country and David Elstob, director of Elstob & Elstob, has been selected to pit his skills against the TV celebrity dealer as the team head to Ripon.
The pair has already taken part in a number of locally-based challenges – including two valuation days at Newby Hall earlier this month – to hunt out treasures for auction. These items are then sold off by each auctioneer as part of a live auction contest and the one who achieves the highest prices wins.
“It has been very exciting to take part in the show, which so far has been fiercely competitive but a lot of fun,” said David Elstob. “It is also great that Ripon is being showcased in this way as the area’s treasures and history will feature as a back-drop to the programme. We have unearthed a lot of fascinating and unusual items that are featured in the show so it should make excellent fast-paced viewing.”
Everyone is welcome to come along and see how the experts fare on the day. The programme will be screened in November.
As well as the items included in the TV show, there are many other exciting lots in the sale, not least pieces of ‘Mouseman’ and Yorkshire Oak; some stylish Danish teak furniture and fine examples of Lalique and Archibald Knox for Liberty.
